Speak Up Now for the Clean Power Plan

From PennEnvironment (http://www.pennenvironment.org):

As massive wildfires scorch the west and record-setting temperatures roast the nation, we can’t afford to keep relying on old, polluting sources of fuel. But the administration just released a power plan that will dump millions of tons of planet-warming pollution into the atmosphere, and slow the transition of the power sector to clean, renewable energy.1,2,3

The new plan lets states regulate individual coal-fired power plants, leaving plenty of room for them to implement only modest improvements or even opt out. In the end, this plan means that dirty, old coal plants will operate for longer, rather than shutting down and being replaced with cleaner infrastructure.

The administration is now required to allow input from the public. Speak up at https://pennenvironment.webaction.org/p/dia/action4/common/public/?action_KEY=28220 to say: Our very future depends on stringent fossil fuel regulations.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) acknowledged that this new plan will result in more carbon, soot, and smog-forming emissions than the Clean Power Plan. By anyone’s measure, the new plan is a dangerous step backwards for human health and the planet.4

And this comes on the heels of last year’s National Climate Assessment. The current EPA collected evidence from thousands of scientists to explicitly state that we are living in the warmest period of modern history — and that human activity like the burning of fossil fuel is to blame.5

We need to speak up for clean power today.

An unstable climate will affect all of us and bring irreversible changes to our lives. This comment period is our best chance to make our voices heard and get on the public record about this issue that will profoundly affect us all. It’s more important than ever to speak up when the current administration isn’t on track to protect us from pollution.

We still have time to stave off the worst effects of global warming, but only if we curtail our carbon emissions — and soon.

That’s why we can’t stand for a power plan that will allow dangerous levels of carbon emissions to continue for years to come. Working to arrest the dangerous consequences of climate change just can’t wait.

Add your name now to tell the administration you won’t stand for their Dirty Power Plan.
