Speak Out for Asylum-Seekers! Sign the Petition

From Amnesty International USA (http://www.amnestyusa.org):

The Administration is showing signs that it will bend to public pressure on their cruel and inhumane border policies — but we must act now.

We need 50,000 signatures this week to reach our goal — to show the administration that we’re against their downright cruel border policies.

Will you speak out? Add your name to Amnesty’s meaningful pledge right now at https://act.amnestyusa.org/page/40007/petition/1 and stand up for asylum-seekers. We hope to have 50,000 signatures by the end of this week — proving that we have a groundswell of support for asylum-seekers.

All supporters of conscience must speak out now and demand that the United States government:

  • ENSURE that all those seeking asylum in the US have their human rights respected, protected, and fulfilled. The asylum process must be fair, respectful of due process, and ensure the US never returns someone to a place where their life or safety will be at risk.
  • STOP separating families who are seeking protection and safety at our border!
  • REAFFIRM our commitment to people fleeing persecution and violence.

We have the power to change these cruel and inhumane policies, if enough of our passionate supporters lend their voice. Sign this important pledge today.

Children and their families — many who have fled unthinkable violence — deserve our compassion and support.

Change the laws and provide greater security to stop illegal asylum seekers. Your organisation should not be taking positions on such issues.

The faith community has a long, proud history of speaking and acting on issues that affect people who are least likely to be able to defend themselves. Our Council has been involved in this work for decades, and we are not alone. We do not engage in political campaigns to support or oppose candidates, but we stand on Jesus’ call to care for our most vulnerable neighbors, which is expression of living out our faith.
