Six More Arrested Blocking Pipeline Construction

From Lancaster Against Pipelines (http://www.wearelancastercounty.org/):

They’re the Quilt 6.

Six more supporters were arrested last Saturday (October 21), including Father Bill, a Catholic priest. They were taken into custody by state police while blocking the upper and lower entrances to the property of The Adorers of the Blood of Christ in West Hempfield township.

They held the quilt that was created from squares sent by opponents of the pipeline. Others held signs and banners proclaiming our pride in our home county. All were singing. They were peaceful and inspiring.

“Protesters arrested after using quilt to block entrance to pipeline site in West Hempfield Township,” read the title of tonight’s article at LancasterOnline. (Emphasis ours.)  Can you get more nonviolent than that?

Lancaster Against Pipelines was back at it Saturday, protesting the construction of the Atlantic Sunrise Pipeline in Lancaster County. For the second time, the group met to update the community and continue its peaceful protesting. For the second time, people were arrested, this time by Pennsylvania State Police, as they blocked the entrance to the construction site in Columbia,” wrote York Daily Record. (Emphasis ours.)

We’re rolling now, friends and supporters, neighbors and family members. And we’re not going to stop until Williams does.

Today we called for Attorney General Josh Shapiro to issue an injunction to stop construction until the Sisters, whose case against the FERC is pending. To the Sisters’, this pipeline is a violation of their deeply held religious beliefs. We all agree that this pipeline is a tragedy exacted on Lancaster County by a gasping, marauding industry–with the complicity of our legislators, courts, and regulatory bodies.

We are willing to use civil disobedience to save our homes and families because our officials have left us no choice. Tell AG Josh Shapiro it’s time to send Williams home.

It was a beautiful, jubilant, purposeful day. Thanks to those who joined us to protect our home and proclaim an end to this out-of-state company’s unwelcome, unnecessary destruction.

To those who couldn’t make it, we’ll let you know when we’re out again! Can’t wait to see you.
