From PA Schools Work (http://paschoolswork.org/)

We are reaching out to you, our supporters, for your help. Years of under-investment by the state has left schools $3 billion short in basic education and $1.38 billion short in special education. This is the moment of truth and we need your help to motivate the legislature to fully fund PA schools.

Please sign on at http://paschoolswork.org/petition/ if you want Gov. Wolf and the legislature to FUND PA PUBLIC SCHOOLS NOW.

Classrooms are overcrowded. Schools are underfunded. Local taxpayers are overburdened. And students’ needs are being overlooked.

In the state with the largest gap between the poorest and wealthiest districts, only larger increases of state funding targeted to the districts that need it most will enable an excellent education for every child regardless of zip code. Property taxes are high because the state isn’t paying its share.

Here’s a great piece from the cofounder and CEO of Colombe Coffee, in which he notes that underinvestment in public schools makes it harder for businesses to find the employees they need: “Students in overcrowded classrooms without books or technology will not learn the hard or soft skills employers prize.”
