From Social Security Works (http://www.socialsecurityworks.org/):
In 2022, Medicare premiums rose by over $20 per person, every month, due to a single ineffective and extremely expensive drug, Alduhelm. But now there’s good news: Medicare has finalized a decision to limit coverage of Aduhelm.
Now, it’s time for Health Secretary Xavier Becerra to lower Medicare premiums—and provide Medicare beneficiaries with a refund for the inflated premiums they’ve already paid this year.
This year’s Medicare premium increase was the largest in history. That’s because it was calculated under the assumption that Medicare would pay for Aduhelm—which was priced at an outrageous $56,000/year per person.
Tell Secretary Becerra at https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/tell-health-secretary-becerra-lower-medicare-premiums-now: Lower Medicare premiums and refund Medicare beneficiaries for the inflated premiums we have already paid this year.
Medicare’s decision to limit coverage of Aduhelm shows the power of the movement to take on Big Pharma greed. For months, Big Pharma and their front groups tried to get this decision overturned—but they failed. That’s because Secretary Becerra heard from Medicare beneficiaries who told him to stand strong and not approve ineffective drugs just to line Pharma’s pockets.
Now, Secretary Becerra needs to hear from us again. With Medicare no longer on the hook to pay for Aduhelm, it’s time to lower our premiums!
