#ShutDownBerks Video 5: The Opioid Epidemic in Berks County

From the #ShutDownBerks Coalition (https://www.facebook.com/ShutDownBerksCoalition/):

Berks County wants human services, not human rights abuses.

In 2017 the Council On Chemical Abuse found that over 30,000 is the estimated amount of Berks County residents in recovery from addiction to drugs and alcohol. It also saw over 5,800 requests for treatment received by the Treatment Access and Services Center (TASC) of the Berks County’s Drug and Alcohol Central intake unit. In 2017 there were 116 drug deaths, nearly double the number of drug deaths in 2014.

This is why Governor Wolf, Lt. Governor Fetterman and Secretary Miller needs to end family detention in Pennsylvania by issuing an Emergency Removal Order, then convert the prison into an affordable and quality drug treatment facility.
