Supreme Court Rejects Realtors’ Request to Invalidate the CDC Eviction Moratorium

From the National Low Income Housing Coalition (http://www.nlihc.org):

The Supreme Court has ruled to continue a temporary stay on a lower court ruling seeking to overturn the federal eviction moratorium issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). In doing so, the Supreme Court leaves in place the federal eviction moratorium that is keeping millions of people stably housed.

The Supreme Court decision is a lifeline for the 6 million renter households behind on rent and at high risk of eviction. The CDC eviction moratorium has provided vital protections to tens of millions of people impacted by the pandemic. Last week, the Biden administration extended the eviction moratorium through July 31 and announced a whole-of-government approach to prevent an historic wave of evictions this summer. These efforts will help ensure that state and local governments have the time and resources needed to address the health and housing needs of the lowest-income and most marginalized renters.
