From the League of Conservation Voters (https://www.lcv.org/):
Right now, Trump’s allies in Congress are pushing THREE terrible anti-parks bills that could cause irreparable damage to our public lands. These bills seek to cement and expand the Trump administration’s unprecedented attacks against Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments AND gut the law that allows presidents to designate and protect new national monuments.
We are fighting back on the ground and in Congress to stop Trump’s unprecedented and unlawful attacks. But Trump and his allies in the Utah delegation are leaving nothing up to chance. They know Trump’s executive orders may be reversed in the courts — but if they succeed in passing these bills into law, it will be next to impossible for us to stop them. They’re moving quickly, so we must too. We need all hands on deck.
Don’t let Congress put the nail in the coffin on our public lands—act now at https://p2a.co/eif9cTw.
These are the three bills currently moving through Congress:
- The No New Parks Bill (H.R. 3990): Since 1906, presidents of both parties have used the Antiquities Act to safeguard public lands, waters, and historic sites. But H.R. 3990 would gut the Antiquities Act, ending that tradition and weakening future presidents’ abilities to preserve our national heritage.
- The Bears Ears Elimination Act (H.R. 4532): This bill undermines the wishes of tribal communities who have advocated for years to protect the sacred sites and cultural resources of Bears Ears National Monument. H.R. 4532 would not only roll back existing protections for Bears Ears, it would also silence the voices of key tribal leaders and local communities who want this sacred land protected.
- The Grand Staircase Giveaway Act (H.R. 4558): Much like H.R. 4532, this bill would cement the Trump administration’s massive cuts to the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument into law. By codifying Trump’s attacks on Grand Staircase, H.R. 4558 robs the meaning and the value of the protections over this land.
We need your help to show Congress we will not stand for these attacks. That’s why we’re sending petitions on all three of these bills — to show them that we’re paying attention to their every single move. And each LCV supporter that signs their name will get us one step closer to stopping these terrible anti-parks bills from becoming the law of the land.
SIGN: Tell Congress to defend our national monuments and oppose these dangerous bills »
We must continue fighting and standing up so future generations can experience these wonders. Make sure that your members of Congress hear you now!
