As you may recognize, Heeding seeks to avoid the ugly ‘he said/he said’ media battle between the gun lobby, especially the NRA, and the large national gun violence prevention organizations. We hope to attract people and communities of faith who may be new to gun violence prevention and believe engaging in the hostile back and forth with the gun lobby doesn’t help.
However, we recognize that the NRA and its long held sway over the US Congress is a major impediment to our gun violence prevention goals, so we were not displeased to read the new study published by the New York Times (see link below) detailing a major and quickening decline in NRA clout with the Congress. The report makes interesting and encouraging reading.
