Tell Congress: Reject Riders that Dismantle Protections for the Tongass National Forest

From the Alaska Wilderness League (http://www.alaskawild.org):

In the coming weeks, Congress could pass legislation with riders that dismantle protections for the Tongass National Forest. Can you help by sending a message to Congress at http://p2a.co/6V64lTL?

The first rider would gut the Roadless Rule – an important rule that helps keep America’s national forests thriving. If passed, this provision would exempt the Tongass from the Roadless Rule and allow logging activities to threaten salmon, bears, wolves and other wildlife. It would also set a precedent that could harm more of our national forests down the road.

The second rider would throw out a management plan that transitions out of old-growth logging in the Tongass – the only place where the U.S. Forest Service still allows old-growth clearcutting.

Please tell your member of Congress to reject these riders.

Your voice can protect wildlife vulnerable to logging, along with experiences that make the Tongass such a special place to live and visit. Where else in our country can you find all five species of Pacific salmon, plus Sitka black-tailed deer, sea otters, beavers, wolves, and the highest density of black bears and nesting bald eagles in the world and one of the highest densities of brown bears?

To keep the Tongass and all of our national forests healthy, we cannot allow the logging lobby to jeopardize our right to use our public lands. We must protect them for future generations.

Speak up and tell Congress to reject these riders!
