Call to Protect Our Liberian Neighbors

From the Interfaith Immigration Coalition (http://www.interfaithimmigration.org):

On Tuesday, March 27, President Trump terminated Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) for Liberians, effective March 31, 2019. This decision follows the recent terminations of temporary protections for Sudanese, Nicaraguan, Haitian, and Salvadoran TPS holders. Liberians currently in the United States with DED have been legally living and working in this country for more than fifteen years, and terminating DED will undoubtedly force children to separate from their parents, or spouses to separate from one another. It also goes against important foreign policy considerations, hindering Liberia’s progress as it struggles to recover from civil war and an Ebola outbreak that shocked the world.

It is critical our Members of Congress hear that their constituents support DED for Liberians, want to see Liberian DED restored & extended for at least another 18 months, and call for a permanent, legislative solution for all DED & TPS holders.

Sample Script: “I’m your constituent from [CITY/TOWN], and [as a person of faith], I support Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) for Liberians in the United States, and I oppose the administration’s decision to terminate it. I urge you to do everything in your power to see that the administration restores and extends DED for Liberia for at least another 18 months. Terminating DED will undoubtedly force children to separate from their parents, as Liberians with DED have been in the United States for more than 15 years. It also goes against important foreign policy considerations, hindering Liberia’s progress as it struggles to recover from civil war and an Ebola outbreak that shocked the world. I also urge you to support a permanent, legislative solution for all DED and TPS holders. My community welcomes our immigrant neighbors, and I urge you to reflect the best of our American values and do the same.”

President Trump has ended a life-saving program for Liberians in the US called DED effective March 31, 2019. This means our Liberian neighbors and friends that have been living and working here for 15+ years will be sent back to a country still recovering from civil war, public health crises like Ebola, and food insecurity. Share this post if you agree with us that America’s foreign policy shouldn’t include heartless deportations. #Faith4DED
