Tell Congress to Protect the Land and Water Conservation Fund

From the League of Conservation Voters (https://www.lcv.org/):

From campgrounds to National Parks to local sports fields, the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) has helped states across the country protect important land, water, and recreation areas for all.

LWCF is an enormously popular program that doesn’t cost taxpayers a dime, but right now Trump and Interior Secretary Zinke are moving to pass huge budget cuts that would wreak havoc on our outdoor economy and undermine towns and cities working to create a clean and healthy future. It’s a reckless and shameless attack on America’s parks and public lands.

It’s up to us to make sure Trump, Zinke, and Congress don’t get away with choking off funding for critical programs like the Land and Water Conservation Fund. Our country’s natural, cultural, and historical heritage is on the line.

Environmental champion Rep. Raul Grijalva recently introduced bipartisan legislation (H.R. 502) to permanently reauthorize the Land and Water Conservation Fund. As Trump moves to pass his dirty budget that would gut LWCF, we need to build a bigger, stronger, and more diverse movement to urge Congress to step up and protect our public lands.

Stand up for our public lands! Tell Congress to support bipartisan legislation to permanently reauthorize the Land and Water Conservation Fund at https://p2a.co/gJX1I66?p2asource=C4GAEMLWCF01.

LWCF is a simple idea: invest a small portion of revenue earned from oil and gas drilling to protect and conserve our lands and waters. These are not taxpayer dollars. This is money that has been set aside for over 50 years by Congress to be used to protect national parks, forests, wildlife refuges, local parks, and more.

Yet over the years Congress has tried to chip away at LWCF funding. This is completely disregarding the help our parks need — a backlog of more than $30 billion is piling up, including in places like the Florida Everglades and Wyoming’s Grand Teton National Park. Congress needs to take this seriously! That’s where you come in.

Together, we can speak out against Trump’s outrageous budget cuts to LWCF and help earn permanent protection for LWCF. Rep. Grijalva’s bill now has 219 bipartisan cosponsors. If we urge even more support, we can make this an issue that Republican leaders cannot ignore. Remember, you have the power.

With Trump pushing a draconian budget and Congress continuing to advance legislation giving handouts to the oil and gas industry, we need a fully funded and functional LWCF more than ever.

Thank you for your support.
