Help to Promote The Call to Prevent Nuclear War

From the Union of Concerned Scientists (http://www.ucsusa.org):

The crisis with North Korea, growing tensions with Russia, and President Donald Trump’s unpredictability are a wake-up call reminding us that preventing nuclear war is everyone’s business. Thankfully, we all have a say and together we can make a difference.

It’s time to put the decisionmakers in Washington on notice that we won’t sit on the sidelines and accept the nuclear status quo while our lives, the planet, and everything we cherish is put at risk.

That’s why the Union of Concerned Scientists is partnering with Physicians for Social Responsibility to push Back From the Brink: The Call to Prevent Nuclear War, five common-sense steps that the United States should take to reform its nuclear policy. We’ll use the call to build broad public and congressional support for fundamental changes in US nuclear weapons policy that will dramatically reduce the threat of nuclear war.

The first step? To take action at the local level…and that’s where you come in.

Join our effort and help promote The Call to Prevent Nuclear War in your community. Our first priority is to get municipal officials and elected bodies—such as mayors, city and town councils, town managers, and county commissioners—from across the country to endorse The Call to Prevent Nuclear War.

All politics is local…even when it comes to global threats like nuclear war. Garnering support from hundreds of towns across the country—and working to spotlight that support in local and state media—will send a powerful message to your members of Congress that they too need to get off the sidelines and take leadership to reduce the very real and immediate nuclear risks we face.

To make it easy for you to join this effort and get involved, we have developed an advocacy toolkit to guide you through the process. We also encourage you to reach out to us for assistance or with your questions or suggestions at smeyer@ucsusa.org or hparra@ucsusa.org.
