Sign Petition to the Senate: Pass the DISCLOSE Act

From the Coalition on Human Needs (http://www.chn.org):

Big money donors and wealthy special interest groups hold too much power in our political system. Despite anonymous donors’ outsized influence, the American public doesn’t know who they are, where the money comes from, or how much they’re spending to upend democracy.

These secretive donors are using campaign finance loopholes to hide their spending on lobbying, elections, and judicial confirmation hearings.

The Senate has the power to end this dark money influence in our political system by passing the DISCLOSE Act. Add your name at https://actionnetwork.org/forms/sign-the-petition-to-the-us-senate-sunlight-is-the-best-disinfectant-pass-the-disclose-act to demand your U.S. Senators pass the DISCLOSE Act today.

The DISCLOSE Act would stop anonymous spending in our elections by requiring entities trying to influence our elections to disclose their major political donors. It would also increase transparency on political advertisements by requiring disclosure of major donors who underwrite ads supporting or attacking judicial nominees.

Overwhelming majorities support requiring super PACs and dark money groups to make their donors public, providing more transparency into lobbyist fundraising, prohibiting political candidates from benefiting from unlimited secret corporate money to boost their campaigns, and requiring organizations engaged in political activity to disclose their large donors.

In 2010, this legislation garnered 59 votes in the Senate, one vote shy of breaking a filibuster. The House approved it twice in 2021 as part of comprehensive voting rights bills. Now it’s time for the Senate to act.

Sunlight is the best disinfectant. Tell your Senators to restore transparency to our democratic process and pass the DISCLOSE Act today.
