Sign Petition to Protect Rollback on Hydrofluorocarbon Emissions

From PennEnvironment (http://www.pennenvironment.org):

Fluorinated gases persist in the atmosphere for thousands of years. They are so potent that even tiny amounts can have massive effects on global temperature. The Environmental Protection Agency calls them “the most potent and longest lasting type of greenhouse gases emitted by human activities.”1

Hydrofluorocarbons, or HFCs, are the most prevalent of these climate change disaster-fueling chemicals. They are used as refrigerants and are common in many appliances. Now, the Trump administration plans to allow even more to escape into the atmosphere.2

We’ve seen rollback after rollback of important climate regulations — and we can’t let any go unchallenged. Add your name today to take a stand against fluorinated gases and climate change at https://pennenvironment.webaction.org/p/dia/action4/common/public/?action_KEY=29135.

A 2016 regulation would have phased out the use of HFCs due to their potent climate-changing effects. But now, the proposed rule changes will make it so that appliances that use large amounts of these chemicals will not need to be inspected regularly or repaired when they leak.3

As a result, leaking refrigerants will translate into more than 3 million additional tons of greenhouse gases in our atmosphere — every single year.4

The EPA is required to take public comments into account once the rule proposal is officially posted. We have the chance — and the moral obligation — to speak out against changes that would seriously harm our future.

Together we can tell the EPA: Don’t put any more super-potent greenhouse gases into our atmosphere.

Enough is enough. You and I both know that if we want a clean, green and livable future for our children and grandchildren, these harmful rollbacks need to stop now.

We know our voices are powerful when we raise them together. PennEnvironment and our national network have organized tens of thousands to take action on issues from renewable power generation to clean car standards and beyond.

Today, we need to seize our chance to keep greenhouse gases out of our atmosphere. For the sake of the climate we share, let’s work together to tell the EPA we won’t stand for this dangerous pollution.

Will you add your name to our petition today?
