From ReImagine Appalachia (https://reimagineappalachia.org/):
Too many young Appalachians feel they have to leave home to find good work. It’s more important than ever to make sure we are creating opportunities for discouraged workers, and to give young people more opportunities for good, family-sustaining careers in the region.
That’s why we are reaching out to you to go to https://secure.everyaction.com/zjlF7LpQGEezzAye6jfqIA2 to ask our Senators to make sure the RECOMPETE Act is included in the COMPETES Bill to help Appalachian communities.
The RECOMPETE Act is a $4 billion dollar pilot bill currently being decided on in Congress that, if passed, would establish a new program at the Economic Development Administration (EDA) to provide grants and other financial assistance to communities in Appalachia that suffer from chronic economic distress.
RECOMPETE grant recipients would develop comprehensive economic development plans and implement programs and activities to alleviate persistent economic distress, support long-term economic growth, create lasting, quality jobs, and increase prime-age employment rates and per capita earnings.
This is another crucial opportunity to invest in our region and build a prosperous, equitable Appalachia for all.
