Sign to Oppose Bill Pushing Voter Suppression and Other Anti-Democratic Amendments

From Common Cause (http://www.commoncause.org):

A bill that started as a simple reform to the way we elect our Lieutenant Governor has been filled with completely irrelevant anti-democratic amendments establishing voter ID, banning abortion, and creating more sham election reviews – which Republicans added overnight, with no public notice, and no respect for public input or expert testimony.

And now they’re pushing to get it on the municipal primary ballot – the kind of election that has historically had the lowest turnout in PA. These Republicans have claimed they want to give the voters a voice, but every step of the way, they’ve done everything they can to avoid listening to us.

Our democracy shouldn’t be abused to push through an unpopular agenda of voter suppression. Add your name at https://act.commoncause.org/petitions/add-your-name-no-anti-voter-legislation-in-pennsylvania to oppose SB 106 and fight back against these attacks on our democracy.

Their intentions are clear: these anti-voter policies would never pass normally, so they’re abusing our constitutional amendment process to get around the checks and balances of our democratic system.

Sneaking anti-abortion policies, outrageous voter ID requirements, and a whole bureau for sham election reviews into an unrelated bill overnight is NOT “giving voters a voice” – but demonstrating a complete disrespect for voters and our legislative process.

The Pennsylvania that these Republicans are working towards would shut countless Pennsylvanians out of participation in our democracy and encourage election deniers and conspiracy theorists to destroy faith in our elections.

Sign now – the legislature needs to stop dodging checks and balances to pass voter suppression.

This is not what democracy looks like, and we can’t stand by while one branch of our state government steals power from another to suppress our vote. We hope you’ll speak out today.
