Celebrate Pennsylvania’s Formal Participation in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative

This June has certainly been a very busy time period with no shortage of significant developments seemingly happening daily.

But let’s pause for a moment, in gratitude, because July 1, 2022 marks Pennsylvania’s formal participation in the Regional GreenHouse Gas Initiative, or RGGI!

Note that the RGGI, Inc. has appropriately updated its website indicating Pennsylvania’s formal participation.

From their website:

The Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) is a cooperative, market-based effort among the states of Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Virginia to cap and reduce CO2emissions from the power sector. It represents the first cap-and-invest regional initiative implemented in the United States.

To be sure, there is much work in front of us, including potential Commonwealth Court action that could, at any time, potentially pause Pennsylvania’s participation. At the moment the reality is PA is participating, in no small part to the amazing work you have all done over the past 2 1/2 years!!!

Congratulations, and please take a moment to soak in the accomplishment of reaching this important milestone!
