Comment Now to Oppose Drilling in the Arctic Refuge

From the Alaska Wilderness League (http://www.alaskawild.org):

Recently, the front page of The New York Times highlighted how “in the blink of an eye, a hunt for oil threatens pristine Alaska.”

It warned readers about the rush to drill in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge – a caribou nursery sacred to the Gwich’in people. CNN published a separate piece written by our partner and Gwich’in leader Bernadette Demientieff. It highlighted how President Trump “is making the warming of Alaska even worse” by pursuing Arctic Refuge oil. Go to https://act.alaskawild.org/sign/refuge-allcomments/

Despite new studies declaring the absolute need to cut fossil fuel emissions to avoid climate catastrophe, the administration’s rushed, climate-damaging plan pursues more drilling, not less. It will also harm and potentially kill nursing polar bears and threaten millions of migratory birds and other cherished wildlife.

With the spotlight on the Arctic Refuge, please submit a comment to Interior Secretary Zinke opposing Refuge drilling.

Articles like these show that your voice matters. The Times highlighted recent polling showing that 70% of Americans oppose Arctic Refuge drilling. And there are more than 40 newly elected members of Congress who have already signaled their support for protecting the Arctic Refuge.

This week marks the 58th anniversary of Republican President Dwight Eisenhower first setting aside this extraordinary landscape for future generations. Take a stand against climate catastrophe and the careless destruction of this critical Arctic wildlife nursery.

Tell Secretary Zinke to keep oil rigs out of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
