Submit a public comment at https://secure.alaskawild.org/a/protect-denning-bears-and-wolves to tell the National Park Service: No bear-baiting and shooting hibernating bears on Alaska’s national preserves.

Donuts left out to lure bears close enough to shoot. Killing hibernating bears or wolves denning with their pups…these sport hunting tactics do not belong on lands managed by the National Park Service to protect biodiversity.

The National Park Service needs to hear loud and clear that you agree. Submit an official public comment today.

Every Alaskan knows that you don’t feed the bears, because if you do, they’ll then become a threat to the humans that they view as a food source. Unfortunately, the state of Alaska will go to great lengths to kill predators with any method possible, and under President Trump, feeding bears was authorized for sport hunters in Alaska’s national preserves.

Months ago, the courts ruled that allowing the baiting of bears, shooting wolf pups, and killing sows with cubs in their dens was arbitrary in 2020, and sent the decision back for reconsideration. Today, new rules proposed by the National Park Service will stop these practices.

This comment period is a critical step in making the final changes needed to provide common-sense protections for bears and wolves in Alaska.
