Demand Justice for Keenan Anderson in Los Angeles

From Moms Rising (https://www.momsrising.org/):

On Jan. 3, Keenan Anderson, father, high school teacher, and cousin of Black Lives Matter co-founder, Patrisse Cullors, was in a minor traffic accident in Venice, California. He flagged down police for help, and then was treated like a criminal, not a victim. He was chased, held face down on the asphalt and repeatedly tased by Los Angeles Police Department officers as he begged for his life.1 He went into cardiac arrest and died. Join us in demanding accountability for the murder of Keenan Anderson.

DEMAND JUSTICE FOR KEENAN, SIGN THE PETITION AT https://action.momsrising.org/sign/JusticeForKeenan.

Only three days into 2023, Anderson’s death was already the third at the hands of LAPD in 2023. This police violence must stop and change must start at the top!

We are backing up local organizers who say LAPD Chief Michel Moore has failed the people of Los Angeles. He must go. Time and again, he has failed to hold cops accountable or enforce de-escalation protocols on the street. As a result, the LAPD disproportionately kills individuals who are Black2 and/or suffering from mental health challenges.3

We are calling on LA Mayor Karen Bass not to reappoint Police Chief Michel Moore. We need your help to make our voices heard!

Five demands for Keenan Anderson:

  • Remove LAPD Chief Michel Moore, who is trying to justify Keenan’s murder and has led the LAPD into killing more people than any other law enforcement unit in the nation.
  • Pull police out of traffic and all other places they obviously don’t belong, including mental health, schools, parks, and housing.
  • Restrict the use of tasers. “Less lethal” does not mean non-lethal.
  • Release the unedited footage of Keenan’s murder and make unedited videos of police killings and violence available as a matter of policy
  • End qualified immunity that shields police from accountability.

Sign our petition here to demand justice for Keenan Anderson.

P.S.- This injustice to Kennan reminds us of the important need to advocate for a redefining of public safety programs. The People’s Response Act provides federal resources and assistance to scale up these efforts and truly transform communities in the United States.
