Tell Our Senators to Honor John Lewis, Support Funds for Voting Safeguards

From Faith in Public Life (http://www.faithinpubliclife.org):

Today marks the 55th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, a cornerstone of Representative John Lewis’ legacy and the fruit of the Civil Rights Movement’s moral courage. But access to the ballot is under grave threat.

The administration is attacking our right to vote by mail amid the deadly COVID pandemic. Every voter deserves access to safe options like vote by mail and early-in person voting. No one should be forced to choose between their health and their right to vote.

Call our U.S. Senators today, and demand that they pass $3.6 billion in funding and mandate key safeguards that will protect our health and ensure voters can safely cast their ballots. As people of faith, we must take action to ensure we all can exercise our right to vote safely and without fear.

Call our Senators at these numbers:  Sen. Casey: (202) 224-6324 Sen. Toomey: (202) 224-4254 and you can say:

“Hi, this is [YOUR NAME] from [YOUR TOWN]. I’m calling to urge the Senator to support $3.6 billion in increased funding for safe and secure elections. As a person of faith, I believe that every voter should be able to vote without fear in the 2020 election. It’s critical that all states increase access to safe and secure alternatives like vote by mail and early-in person voting. During the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s essential that Congress provide emergency election funding to ensure that every voter’s voice is heard and our democracy is upheld. And we need the support of Senator [ YOUR SENATOR]. Thank you.”

We are just 89 days from an election that will determine the future of our democracy, and we have already witnessed the devastating impact of voter suppression and blatant efforts by President Trump to undermine our right to vote.

Make the call now to demand our Senators fully fund safe and secure voting access to the ballot.

Together we can ensure a safe and successful election.
