The past few weeks have served as a constant reminder of the extent this administration is willing to go in its push to silence, criminalize, and dehumanize immigrant communities. There are several efforts currently underway in response to the latest onslaught of attacks from this administration and we wanted to highlight those here in an effort to amplify the important work members and allies are carrying out.
Fundraisers
- Fianza Fund: A part of the caravan that has already arrived to the San Diego border included a contingent of LGBTQ folks. Description from DWN members, Detained Migrant Solidarity Committee who run this fund. “Any trans people detained by ICE will be held at the Cibola County Correctional Facility in northern New Mexico. The Fianza Fund is the only bond fund regularly paying to get our trans compañerxs released from Cibola, and we need help right now to continue paying bonds (which normally range from $1,500-$15,000).”
- The Angry Tias and Abuelas: A grassroots effort of mainly mothers, aunts and other residents of Brownsville, TX working to support those arriving at the Brownsville/Matamoros border providing folks with water, food, and materials to create makeshift shelters. Learn more about the group here.
- Diversidad Sin Fronteras: This collective works on providing support to trans people migrating through the Arizona border. They are accepting donations via paypal at diversidadsinfronterasaz@gmail.com.
- Thoughty Organizer: A grassroots, volunteer-run effort by Latinx residents of Los Angeles, focusing on providing resources (water, food, clothes, etc) to people on the Tijuana/San Diego border. They are accepting donations via paypal at paypal.me/thoughtyorganizer.
NSC’s Sanctuary Caravan
New Sanctuary Coalition is in the process of coordinating a caravan from NYC to the southern border. This caravan is set to depart in the coming weeks and seeks to provide human rights observers, support in preparing necessary paperwork, and overall accompaniment to those arriving at the southern border to attempt to ensure they are allowed into the U.S. and not detained indefinitely.
Mesa Verde Expansion
Sign-on to the current push by community members in Kern County, California to stop the proposed expansion of the Mesa Verde detention center in Bakersfield, CA. As we know, the policies and aggression displayed by this administration means that more and more of the people currently crossing will likely be subjected to indefinite detention. This upsurge in detentions requires an expansion of existing infrastructure. Please sign on to this letter urging the councilmembers of McFarland to oppose this proposed expansion.

Right now Congress is deciding how much money ICE and CBP will get after the current funding bill expires on December 7th. Money is one of the only barriers that can stop Trump’s plan to terrorize immigrant communities. More money for ICE and CBP will mean more violence and trauma in our communities. We must demand that Congress cut funding to ICE and CBP.
American Friends Service Committee – Day of action: a moral call for migrant justice
AFSC is coordinating a day of action on December 10th, International Human Rights day, to call attention to the atrocities going on in the southern border. The action will be taking place on the border between San Diego and Tijuana but they are hoping folks take on solidarity actions across the country. Las ultimas semanas han servido como un recuerdo constante del punto al que esta dispuesto a llegar esta administracion con el fin de silenciar, criminalizar, y deshumanizar a las comunidades inmigrantes. Existen varios esfuerzos en marcha para responder a la mas reciente arremetida de esta administracion, y queríamos resaltar algunos aqui con el fin de amplificar este trabajo importante que miembrxs y aliadxs estan llevando a cabo.
Recaudaciones de Fondo
- Fondo Fianza: Hay partes de la caravana que ya han llegado a la frontera con San Diego, y parte de esta ha sido un contingente de personas LGBTQ. El Comité de Solidaridad con Migrantes Detenidxs, quienes administran este fondo, describen este trabajo asi: “Cualquier persona trans que es detenida por ICE será puesta en la Facilidad Correccional del Condado de Cibola en el norte de Nuevo México. El Fondo Fianza es el único fondo de fianzas que está pagando regularmente para que nuestrxs compañerxs trans sean liberadxs de Cibola, y necesitamos apoyo ahora para continuar pagando estas fianzas (las cuales usualmente cuestan entre $1,500 y $15,000).”
- Las Angry Tias y Abuelas: Un esfuerzo de base predominantemente liderado por madres, tías y otrxs residentes de Brownsville, TX trabajando para apoyar a quienes están llegando a la frontera de Brownsville/Matamoros border al proveer personas con agua, comida, y materiales para crear resguardos temporales. La Caravana de Santuario de NSC
La Nueva Coalición de Santuario está en el proceso de coordinar una caravan de la ciudad de Nueva York a la frontera del sur. Esta caravana saldrá en las próximas semanas y busca proveer observadores de derechos humanos, apoyar en la preparación de papeleo necesario, y en general acompañar a quienes están llegando a la frontera del sur para intentar asegurar que puedan entrar al país y no se les detenga indefinidamente.
Expansion en Mesa Verde, CA
Firme esta petición para apoyar a la iniciativa de miembrxs de la comunidad de Kern County, California para parar la propuesta expansión del centro de detención de Mesa Verde localizado en Bakersfield, CA. Como sabemos, las pólizas de agresión desplegadas por esta administración significan que mas y mas personas que crucen la frontera serán puestas en detención indefinidamente. Este incremento en detenciones requiere la expansión de la infraestructura existente. Por favor firme esta carta que exige que lxs miembrxs del Consejo de la ciudad de McFarland se opongan a esta expansión.

Ahora mismo el Congreso está decidiendo cuando dinero se le otorgara a ICE y CBP después de que el presupuesto actual se venza el 7 de diciembre. El dinero es uno de los únicos obstáculos que pueden frenar el plan de Trump de aterrorizar a comunidades migrantes. Más dinero para ICE y CBP significará más violencia y trauma en nuestras comunidades. Debemos exigir que el Congreso disminuya los fondos para ICE y CBP.
American Friends Service Committee – Dia de Accion: un llamado moral por la justicia migrante.
AFSC está coordinando un dia de accion el 10 de diciembre, Dia Internacional de los Derechos Humanos, para hacer un llamado resaltando las atrocidades que están ocurriendo en la frontera del sur. La acción se llevará a cabo en la frontera entre San Diego y Tijuana pero también incluye un llamado a que se hagan acciones en solidaridad a lo largo del país.
