From Amnesty International USA (http://www.amnestyusa.org):

The clock is ticking for Afghans in the U.S.:

Families who fled their homes when the Taliban seized power last year only have 10 months left until they face possible deportation back to Afghanistan.

They know (and we know) what’s waiting for them if they are forced to go back to Afghanistan — oppression, violence, and retribution for leaving. But we can stop this terrible fate — a bill called the Afghan Adjustment Act is going up for a vote any day now. If passed, it would create a way for Afghans in the US to apply for permanent legal status in the U.S.

This is a bipartisan bill with a serious chance of passing before the end of the year. We must increase the pressure on our elected leaders in the current Congress, while the bill has a real chance. Will you add your voice?

Act Now at https://act.amnestyusa.org/page/93479/action/1: Ask our Senators and your Representative to pass the Afghan Adjustment Act before the end of the year.

We at Amnesty frequently meet with Afghan community groups to hear about their needs, and see how we can help. They are still struggling with complete uncertainty about their futures. They lost their homes, many of their valuables, and have suffered massive human rights violations. And the U.S. brought them here to seek safety. We cannot turn our backs on them now.

There is growing support to pass the Afghan Adjustment Act, but we need to send more messages to our lawmakers ASAP.

Will you use our simple tool to urge our Senators and your Representative to pass this critical bill?

We’ve seen that when we come together, we can help Afghans at risk: with the support of thousands of voices like yours, we helped secure over $13 billion in humanitarian funding for Afghans at risk. We also successfully pressured Congress to pass legislation to ensure that Afghans on humanitarian parole have access to housing, English classes, job training, education, medical care, and so much more.

That’s the proof of our power.

But we can’t let up the pressure now — far too many people are in need.

This is a critical moment to ensure that Afghans find real, lasting safety in the U.S.

With this legislation, tens of thousands of people can sleep more soundly, knowing they won’t be returned to a dangerous situation.
