Gun Violence Prevention Bill Passes in the House

From Heeding God’s Call (http://www.heedinggodscall.org):

Yes, it’s a Good Day, that H.R. 8, the first federal gun violence prevention bill approved by either house of the US Congress in more than a decade, received a 240 to 190 vote for passage.  Thanks to all who contacted your US Rep.  You made today happen.  Hallelujah!

However, this vote for background checks is just a step, an important step for sure, in the right direction.  In order to gain enactment, H.R. 8 must be voted on in the US Senate, gain a majority of votes there and be signed by the President.  These are three very difficult steps under current US Senate leadership and White House, which points to the need for continued advocacy for change.

Heeding urges all to celebrate today and recommit tomorrow.  We will be back to you shortly with a review of where things stand and an admonition as to what each person and community of faith can do to bring about life-saving change.  Again…Hallelujah!
