Governor’s Budget Inadequate to Meet State’s Environmental Challenges–Act Now

From PennFuture (http://www.pennfuture.org):

Governor Tom Wolf has proposed a budget that would reform state government and address its financial woes – but it does little to support badly needed increases for environmental protection.

Pennsylvania has significant environmental and public health issues that desperately need public investment and attention from legislators, including:

  • Cleaning up the Susquehanna River
  • Modernizing the state’s drinking water and antiquated sewage infrastructure
  • Supporting next-generation clean energy technologies
  • Conserving green spaces
  • Cleaning up legacy pollution issues around the state

The Governor’s budget recognizes these challenges, but doesn’t provide a clear and aggressive action plan with allocated dollars to address them.

We agree Pennsylvania must deal with its fiscal situation, but it cannot do so at the expense of environmental protection and at the expense of your family’s health.

For a decade, Pennsylvania’s political leaders from both parties have cut environmental agency budgets, often resulting in failures to meet the most fundamental environmental standards for our infrastructure, industrial practices, and public resources. The citizens are the ones who pay when safe drinking water standards are not met and rivers and lands are polluted.

We urge you to call on your legislators to take a different path at https://pennfuture.salsalabs.org/2817wolfbudget/index.html. Ask them to increase funding for environmental protection and conservation so that we can ensure safe drinking water, protect clean waterways for recreation, advance renewable energy, and develop sustainable communities.

It is your right.
