Faith Leader Sign On Letters: Support TPS/Immigrant Neighbors & Stand with Refugees

From Church World Service (http://www.churchworldservice.org):

Right now, our communities are facing a heartless campaign to tear families apart by arresting and deporting moms, dads, and young people who have lived in the United States for years. Threats to the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) programs mean that the lives of over a million people are in danger. TPS has given about 325,000 people from 10 countries the opportunity to rebuild their lives, work, and raise a family in safety. They are taxpayers, our coworkers, and our neighbors. Tearing them apart from their families is wrong. We need Congress and the administration to hear that we stand with our immigrant neighbors and call on them to keep programs like TPS and DACA intact and continue extending TPS protections for all countries.

At the same time, the administration is considering how many refugees we welcome to the United States next year. The U.S. refugee resettlement program is a life-saving public-private partnership that is a critical humanitarian and diplomacy tool. As people of faith and as Americans, we must continue to demonstrate global leadership by offering protection and welcome to refugees, regardless of their country of origin, vulnerability, or religion. As we face the worst refugee crisis in global history with more than 22 million refugees worldwide, we cannot and should not shirk our responsibility to protect the most vulnerable mothers, fathers, and children. Congress and the administration needs to hear that their constituents welcome refugees and that we should resettle as least 75,000 refugees next year.

How You Can Help:

(1) Faith leaders: Sign on to this letter by Friday, September 1 to support TPS and our immigrant neighbors! To let TPS expire or end it altogether would mean turning our backs on the vulnerable individuals we pledged to welcome, and would further destabilize those countries and regions as they struggle to recover from armed conflicts, natural disasters, or other extraordinary circumstances. Once you sign the letter, click here to tell your Members of Congress and President Trump to live up to our promises and send a clear message that we stand with TPS holders and DACA recipients!

(2) Faith leaders: Sign on to this letter by Wednesday, September 6 to stand with refugees! Our elected officials need to hear our voices calling on the United States to welcome at least 75,000 refugees in Fiscal Year 2018.

As people of faith, we are called to welcome the stranger, stand with the vulnerable, and love our neighbor. Make your voices heard today! Thank you for taking action, and for all your work and support.
