An estimated 24,000 Pennsylvania children do not qualify for Medicaid or CHIP because of their immigration status – the only kids in the state who are ineligible. Being uninsured severely impedes children’s ability to get health care – and the COVID-19 crisis has put the significance of having access to care and coverage into sharp focus. Pennsylvania legislators can amend state law and qualify all children – and six other states already cover all kids, so PA can be the next.
