From Food and Water Watch (http://www.foodandwaterwatch.org/):

You are invited to participate in a 3 week push to finally end fossil fuel subsidies as part of the infrastructure package being negotiated in Congress. As a candidate, President Biden promised to end subsidies for the fossil fuel industry. He is promising to address climate change through the infrastructure package. We will not be able to avert climate chaos as long as the federal government is propping up the fossil fuel industry with massive subsidies.

Biden and congressional leadership are facing tremendous pressure to keep the subsidies flowing. In order win this fight, we need a strong block of members of Congress who will make this a priority. And the next few weeks are a key window of opportunity. is a big coalition behind the End Polluter Welfare Act, but we know that through grassroots organizing in specific districts we can make a big difference.

Here are actions you can take at this critical time.

  • Hold an outdoor rally or letter delivery at your local Congressional office. Food & Water Watch and our local allies are planning events in about a dozen locations, but anyone can put an event on the map here: https://actionnetwork.org/event_campaigns/week-of-action-tell-congress-to-end-fossil-fuel-subsidies Be in touch if you’d like to plan something and have any questions.
  • Call our Members of Congress. These phone lines will connect callers to their Senators and Representative, and here’s a sample script to share.
    • Senate (call twice for both Senators): 877-559-7809
    • House: 888-660-2594

Alternatively, you can call directly—find contact information:

Sample script: “Hi, my name is _______, I live in [city/town/district]. I’m calling to urge [Rep. / Sen.] ______ to repeal subsidies and tax breaks for the fossil fuel industry, and to support the End Polluter Welfare Act (S. 1167 / HR 2102). [Rep. / Sen.] ______ should co-sponsor this bill, and push to include these policies in the infrastructure package being considered this year.”

More events and actions are planned for the coming week, stay tuned!
