Tell Interior/Secretary Zinke: Don’t Gut Methane Rule on Public Lands

From the National Wildlife Federation (https://www.nwf.org/):

An important safeguard is on the chopping block that would protect pronghorn roaming our wild public lands from harmful methane pollution released by oil and gas operations.

Don’t let the fossil fuel industry get its way.

Please tell the Department of the Interior and Secretary Zinke at https://online.nwf.org/site/Advocacy?cmd=display&page=UserAction&id=2492 that gutting the BLM methane waste rule on public lands is harmful for wildlife, people and the protection of clean air!

Methane is a climate super-pollutant with more than 80 times the planet-warming potential over carbon dioxide in the short-term. It’s commonly emitted as a byproduct of oil and gas production, along with smog-causing and toxic pollution harmful to wildlife and people alike.

Last year, we asked for your help to support the BLM methane waste rule to require oil and gas operations to limit their emissions on public and tribal lands. We were able to call on the Senate to save the rule—and we won! After this, we were also able to stop a suspension of the rule when a Federal judge ruled in favor of a lawsuit brought by the National Wildlife Federation and partners. These were big wins for wildlife, and we couldn’t have done it without people like you.

Now we’re asking for your help again. Interior Secretary Zinke, egged on by the fossil fuel industry, is proposing to eviscerate the methane waste rule by removing all meaningful provisions that require monitoring and limiting methane leaks and intentional emissions from oil and gas operations. The public comment period on this new rule closes soon, and we need your help right now to ensure the original, effective rule remains in place.

Take action to protect pronghorn and all wildlife from harmful methane pollution today.

The Trump administration is moving aggressively to dismantle climate policies that protect both public health and wildlife, and there is no sign of a rollback slowdown. For this reason, wildlife champions like you must be equally dogged and determined in speaking out on behalf of the special wildlife, people and places we cherish!

Thank you for taking action today to protect wildlife.
