Tell the Department of Energy to Update Efficiency Standards for Furnaces

From PennEnvironment (http://www.pennenvironment.org):

Turning up the heat in our homes shouldn’t mean turning up levels of pollution and, thankfully, the future of heating is looking cleaner.

The Department of Energy has proposed the first meaningful update to efficiency standards for furnaces and boilers in more than 30 years. If adopted, these standards will reduce pollution that makes us sick and warms our planet.

The gas industry continues to lobby against stronger standards, but with enough public support, we can overcome the power of the gas industry. The Department of Energy is taking public input until Sept. 6.1

Will you email the Department of Energy asking it to update efficiency standards for furnaces? Take action at https://pennenvironment.webaction.org/p/dia/action4/common/public/?action_KEY=51395.

With the new standards, furnaces and boilers will use less gas — which means:

  • Updating the efficiency standard for gas furnaces will reduce energy use and cut greenhouse gas emissions — which means cleaner air for everyone and an important step to combat the climate crisis.
  • Wasteful, inefficient models will be phased out from the markets so that future customers will have access to better choices. Customers will save money on their energy bills. Strong new standards could cut average annual home heating bills for consumers who replace an inefficient furnace by nearly $500 over the life of the furnace.2

The new energy standards for furnaces are a win for the planet and consumers.
