One of the region’s biggest natural gas developers, Cabot Oil, was charged with numerous felony environmental crimes following a two-year grand jury investigation, state Attorney General Josh Shapiro announced recently.
Shapiro is criminally charging the company based on their misconduct in the fracking process. This is news we all need to celebrate. Fracking threatens our health and environment in a multitude of ways, and many states and nations have banned it. I was a profracking businessman and only switched when I did the research and learned of the hundreds of studies(now over 1800) establishing the health and environmental impacts of fracking. I applaud Shapiro’s courage in protecting the Constitutional Rights of Pa citizens to clean air and pure water. He went up against a government that is virtually owned by the gas industry.
It is not a question of whether fracking is good or bad for the environment. It is bad. The only question is how long before the government wakes up. The Sierra Club 12 years ago was profracking until they did the research. I and hundreds like me accepted the propaganda until we did the research. AG Shapiro and the Grand jurors did the research and from that indictments were issued. The question is why are more people in our government not doing the research. Vermont, Maryland, NY, Washington, and Oregon and many nations have done the research and banned fracking. One can not remain profracking if they do the research.
