CWS decries family separation and incarceration, reaffirms dignity of all seeking asylum

Washington, D.C. – In light of the government’s failure to reunite separated immigrant children with their families by today’s court-ordered deadline, Rev. John L. McCullough, President and CEO of CWS released this statement:

“Weeks ago the nation was horrified when we heard the cries of innocent children separated from their parents at our southern border. Today, the government has failed to meet the court-ordered deadline to reunite children over 5, after already failing to meet the deadline to reunite children under 5. These are innocent children whose parents brought them to our borders to lawfully seek the protection of our government. It is hard to bear the knowledge that these children face untold trauma and abuse at the hands of government officials purporting to act in our name.

“Today, I will pray for the separated children, their families, and our nation. Then I will call my representative, both of my senators, and the Attorney General’s office to demand that the government redouble its efforts to #ReuniteEveryChild.”
