Add Your Comment to Support Strong Methane Pollution Standards—Deadline December 17

From Interfaith Power and Light (http://interfaithpowerandlight.org):

President Trump and Acting EPA Administrator Wheeler are trying to gut the EPA’s methane pollution standards. These standards were designed to limit the release of methane pollution, a potent greenhouse gas, from the oil and gas industry, and also to help protect communities from other dangerous pollutants released alongside methane. Please speak up in support of commonsense methane safeguards now.

Methane is a significant driver of climate change, and a rollback of these critical health protections would put our families’ health at risk. This rollback marks the beginning of a two-part scheme by Wheeler and the Trump Administration to dramatically weaken standards to control dangerous pollution.

Go to http://salsa4.salsalabs.com/o/50836/p/dia/action4/common/public/?action_KEY=25712 to tell the Administration you support strong methane pollution standards for the oil and gas industry.

People of faith and conscience made thousands of comments in support of strong EPA methane standards through a long public process. Now the Trump Administration is ignoring all of those comments as they try to roll back the standards. This is terrible for Americans who are bearing the increasing costs of climate change impacts. The EPA must continue to require operators to use proven, cost-effective technologies and practices to prevent harmful air pollution from oil and gas sites instead of putting polluter profits ahead of the health of our families and future generations.

Right now, oil and gas industrial facilities emit at least 8.1 million metric tons of methane pollution a year. That has the same climate impact as operating over 150 coal-fired power plants for a year, or driving more than 145 million cars for a year. Weakening these standards means more pollution in our air and is a blatant attack on the people who live near these facilities and depend on these protections to keep the air they breathe clean.

Adding your voice is important. Tell Wheeler and Trump that our health and our climate must not be sacrificed for industry profits.

Click here to let the Trump Administration hear from you.

We have until December 17th to make our voices heard, speak up and ask EPA to protect our communities from harmful air pollution
