From the PICO National Network (http://www.piconetwork.org):
We’re finally seeing positive movement on a potential bi-partisan agreement to re-authorize the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) for the 9 million low-income children who depend on it for their healthcare.
Children’s healthcare is in jeopardy because Republicans missed the September 30 deadline to re-authorize the program, which has traditionally enjoyed bi-partisan support, because they were seeking to take away the Affordable Care Act. The legislation stalled because of challenges with funding–Democrats could not support a bill that funded children’s healthcare with cuts to healthcare for other communities. Some states are in real danger of running out of money.
It’s good news that bipartisan leaders are coming together to reach an agreement so kids don’t lose healthcare. We want to encourage this conversation. The letter at the link below urges lawmakers to make reaching an agreement on CHIP a top priority and reject bi-partisan roadblocks that can only result in more risk for kids.
If you are a member of the clergy, please lend your voice to this effort by signing the letter. The deadline for signatures is Friday, November 17 at noon.
