Six feet.

That’s what scientists reported last week as the likely sea level rise in the next 85 years, if we don’t check the current levels of runaway climate change. Under this scenario, “the 22nd century would be the century of hell,” said one respected scientist.

In 2 weeks, on April 22, world leaders have been invited to the UN in New York to sign the Paris Climate Agreement. Experts worldwide recognize that this agreement is a good start – but that far stronger commitments are needed.

Some particularly vulnerable countries, sensing the urgency, have already moved forward, including Fiji, Palau, and the Marshall Islands. The world’s two largest emitters, the US and China, have announced that they will sign the agreement in New York.

We need every country to sign, ratify and put the Agreement into action – and then get back to work and commit to bolder action that will truly solve the climate crisis.

Urge world leaders to sign the Paris Agreement and commit to further action.

On April 18, just a few days before the UN ceremony, we will hand over a historic climate statement signed by over 100 high-level faith leaders from around the world to the President of the UN General Assembly. The statement calls on countries to sign & ratify the Paris Agreement, and to commit to further action. It’s one of the most religiously diverse collection of signers ever for a climate statement.

Thousands of others have added their names, representing congregations and people of diverse faiths from across the globe. People just like you and me.

Together our voices carry moral power and influence. Our leaders need to feel that now. The Paris Agreement represented a good first step. Let’s send the message that the next step can’t come soon enough.

The age of fossil fuels can and must come to an end if we are to protect the vulnerable. We have the power. In 2 weeks we have the moment. Let’s make it happen.
