Call for 100% Renewable Energy in Pennsylvania

From PennEnvironment (http://www.pennenvironment.org):

Pennsylvania could be next to go 100 percent renewable.

We have the tools we need to clean up pollution, protect our special places and safeguard our planet for future generations. And every day that passes, it becomes more imperative that we make bold, binding commitments to put those tools to work.

That’s why this week, our national network is launching campaigns to convince 13 states to make legislative commitments to 100 percent clean, renewable energy — and Pennsylvania is one of those states.

Less than three years ago, Hawaii was the only state to have made a legislative commitment to using 100 percent renewable energy, and our team in California was determined to make their state the next.

So our sister group Environment California got to work.

They knocked on doors all over the state. They hosted rallies. They teamed up with other environmental groups and lobbied every day in the capitol. With smart organizing and people power, they made it their mission to show state leadership the overwhelming support of Californians for a renewable energy future.

And in 2018, they won — California passed the boldest U.S. 100 percent commitment to date.1

To date, seven states have committed to go 100 percent. Let’s make Pennsylvania the next.

Incredible progress always starts with a goal. Back in 2001, the Department of Energy forecast that the U.S. would increase its renewable energy to roughly 1 percent by 2020. But as states started setting more and more ambitious goals, and surpassing them ahead of schedule, renewable energy growth surpassed all expectations. Last year, renewables exceeded 10 percent of our country’s electricity supply.2

We can and must do even more — and Pennsylvania should be part of that story.

Join our call for Pennsylvania to become a leader on the path to 100 percent renewable energy.
