Building Community in Nature During Social Separation

From the Sierra Club (https://www.sierraclub.org/):

At Team Sierra, we’ve been working hard to build a community of people who are protecting the planet.

Today is the first day of Earth Month, and the 22nd marks the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day. Earth Day has become a tradition for us, but things are very different this year. So, we’re creating virtual activities (as we speak!) inspired by nature so you can join us while you’re home.

The First Activity:

  • Share a photo of nature with the hashtag #QuarantineLifeCalm.
  • Get creative! It can be a photo of a flower you see from your window. Or take a trip down memory lane and share a photo from a past camping trip or backyard BBQ.
  • Tag 5 friends and challenge them to share a nature photo. Help bring the outdoors into the homes of your family, friends, and people across the nation!

These small moments of relaxation can help right now — and studies show looking at nature reduces stress! You’ll get an email each Saturday and Wednesday with updated virtual activities. You can create a Team Sierra page where you can add photos, videos, or journal how you’re connecting with nature from home. Here’s an example.
