From PennEnvironment (http://www.pennenvironment.org):
Once known for our production of coal, oil and gas, Pennsylvania now has the opportunity to lead in a new direction.
On May 7, a bipartisan collection of 88 state legislators reintroduced legislation to require Pennsylvania to get 100 percent of its energy from renewable sources by 2050. The legislation would commit the state to a set of benchmarks: 50 percent renewable energy and 100 percent renewable electricity by 2030; 80 percent renewable energy by 2040; and 100 percent renewable energy economy-wide by 2050.
“For far too long, Pennsylvania has been a huge part of the problem when it comes to climate change,” said PennEnvironment Executive Director David Masur. “With the introduction of this legislation, Pennsylvania can be a huge part of the solution.”
If the legislation passes, Pennsylvania could become the fifth state committed to 100 percent carbon-free electricity, following Hawaii, California, New Mexico and Washington, and the first to do so with Republican lead sponsors.
