From Interfaith Power and Light (http://interfaithpowerandlight.org):
This year temperatures are soaring, heat records are breaking, and people across the nation are being affected by our changing climate.
As people of faith, we are called to honor Creation and protect our vulnerable neighbors. We cannot stand by and watch as Earth’s life support systems are decimated. Wildfires are raging in California, Texas experienced record flooding, and communities are desperately trying to deal with the consequences of a changing climate. 2016 is set to be the hottest year on record.
But instead of feeling hopeless, we can take action. Climate change is a problem so big, it takes all of us to solve it and we can all make a difference. IPL faith communities are leading the way. They are taking control of how much carbon they emit from houses of worship, homes, schools and facilities. Is your faith community one of them?
Projects are happening across the country and congregations are becoming renewable role models, energy savers, sacred grounds stewards, community inspiration leaders and new project planners. St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Johnson City Tennessee did an energy audit and saved over $1000 in the first six months. St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Seattle Washington has a solar panel system that saves six tons of carbon a year. The Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Fairfax Virginia inspired climate activists in Northern Virginia. Their county now has invested $500,000 in new energy conservation projects. These are just a few of the congregations making a difference.
You are doing amazing work and we want to thank and reward you for doing your part to protect Creation and all the Earth’s bounty for our children and grandchildren. Become a Cool Congregation today.
