Beating Guns: New from Shane Claiborne—Spring Tour Turning Guns to Garden Tools

From Shane Claiborne:

I want to make sure you know about my newest project, BEATING GUNS. I’m pretty pumped about it, and would love to see if you’d be interested in collaborating with us on it.  I’ve teamed up with my Mennonite blacksmith pal, Mike Martin (founder of RAW Tools), to write a timely book that comes out in March. But here’s the really cool part… Mike and I will be hitting the road with the forge this coming Spring, traveling around the country turning guns into garden tools.

Some folks say that it’s not a gun problem, it’s a heart problem.  We believe it is both – a gun and a heart problem.  As we travel the country we will invite people to examine their own hearts and literally allow people to burn the hostilities of their hearts in the forge. Then, in the period of one hour, we will transform a gun into a plow and let participants take the hammer. In each city we will listen to the stories of lives impacted by gun violence, amplifying the voices of those directly affected.  Mike and I will make space for God to heal hearts, and we will challenge audiences to take action on behalf of the 105 lives lost each day to guns in the US.

After the recent shootings in the synagogue in Pittsburgh and the bar in California, we are reminded once again that this is one of the most urgent and important issues of our age. Please consider bringing the tour to your town.  You can do that by filling out our invitation form at “www.BeatingGuns.org“.  You can also pre-order the book and register to win a tool made from a gun. In addition to the tour, we are establishing a “Disarming Network” of safe places that guns can be donated and disarmed, and later turned into tools. All the info is on our site, and if you have any questions or ideas, don’t hesitate to email us: shanespeaking@redletterchristians.org

May we continue to build the world we dream of.
