Act Now to Save Early Learning in PA

From Pre-K for PA (http://www.prekforpa.org/):

Over the past 3 weeks, 6,000 advocates have sent more than 17,000 emails to Governor Wolf and the General Assembly reminding them that child care is not only essential for workers on the front line now, but also will make or break our economic recovery as parents return to work.

That message has been heard! Pennsylvania has committed to continuing child care subsidy payments through at least May 31 and Pre-K Counts and Head Start payments for the duration of the academic year. Continuing these payments regardless of whether programs operate are helping to save PA’s early learning system and ready it for the recovery.

BUT MORE ACTION IS NEEDED!

The next six weeks are critical in our advocacy efforts as policymakers decide how federal stimulus funds are spent and address other concerns associated with COVID-19.

We know that thousands of child care, pre-k and Head Start providers will not be able to reopen without further efforts to save early learning programs throughout the state. State policymakers must act now!

Please take a few minutes this week to urge PA lawmakers that efforts to save early learning programs in PA must include authorizing emergency funding to cover the costs of the parent co-pay for children enrolled in child care subsidy.
