Of the 16 federal agencies we surveyed this year, scientists working for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reported the biggest challenges. They experience the highest levels of political interference in their scientific work and see staff reductions and shifts in priorities as hurting their ability to carry out the agency’s critical mission of protecting our health and environment.
