On April 30, the U.S. Labor Department reported that the advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment (UI) during the week ending April 18 was 17,992,000, an increase of 2,174,000 from the previous week’s revised level. It explained, “This marks the highest level of seasonally adjusted insured unemployment in the history of the seasonally adjusted series.” According to POLITICO, this brings the total of UI claims filed since mid-March to 30 million.
