The Solidarity Not Solitary campaign focuses on educating Pennsylvanians about the problematic nature and treatment occurring in PA prison facilities and proposed legislation to reform solitary confinement conditions.
Solitary confinement has plagued Pennsylvania for far too long. The mental health effects, financial burden, and lack of reintroduction programs are a few of the many problems that are created from time spent in solitary. A UN Special Rapporteur of the Human Rights Council states that any solitary confinement hold longer than 15 days is considered torture. In Pennsylvania right now, the maximum length for solitary is 90 days, but many inmates are recommitted for months or decades.
This event will cover the background of solitary confinement, current situations that the campaign is fighting against, and proposed legislation.
