From Common Cause (http://www.commoncause.org):
Voting rights are under attack all over the country. Look no further than Texas — where Republicans are attempting to muscle through legislation to ban 24-hour and drive-through voting, increase criminal penalties for election workers, and add new voter identification obstacles for those voting by mail.
That’s why we need the Senate to pass the For the People Act. It’s the best way to set strong, nationwide standards for voting rights, and push back against these shameful efforts to limit our right to vote.

This landmark bill will enshrine in federal law reforms like expanded vote-by-mail — and stop state legislation designed to disenfranchise voters from taking effect. In order to help states like Texas, we need federal legislation now.
Passing the For the People Act in the Senate is the only way we can protect the freedom to vote for everyone. It will help break down racist, institutional barriers in our country that seek to keep people of color, young people, and others out of the political process, and build a democracy where every person has equal access to the ballot box and fair representation. Senate Majority Leader Schumer announced last week that the Senate will reconsider a voting rights package as the first legislative priority when they reconvene on September 13th, so it’s important to take action now.
We desperately need these federal law reforms. Can you write a Letter to the Editor today?
