From CLASP (http://www.clasp.org/):
On Tuesday, Representative Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) and Senator Kirstin Gillibrand (D-NY) introduced the Family and Medical Insurance Leave (FAMILY) Act, which would establish a federal program providing almost every worker in the country up to 12 weeks of paid leave to bond with a new child, care for a seriously ill family member, or treat their own serious illness.
“Nobody should be penalized for taking time to care and heal,” director of Job Quality Pronita Gupta says, in describing her own experience with paid family and medical leave. “However, many workers are penalized, with one in 7 workers having lost a job due to taking family or medical leave and many low-wage workers losing all their income when doing so.” Pronita explains why we need the FAMILY Act, which will ensure that paid leave is attainable for all.
