From the Pennsylvania Health Access Network (http://www.pahealthaccess.org):
The George Washington University Institute of Public policy has released an updated report detailing what is at stake for Pennsylvania in the 2020 Census. They analyzed 55 federal programs that funnel money to Pennsylvania at levels determined by the Census. Collectively, in FY 2016, these programs totaled over $39 billion.
These programs include direct financial assistance, tax credits, and procurement programs that benefit Pennsylvanians in a variety of ways including Medicare and Mediaid, student loans, food and housing support, business loans, job training grants, and much more. Any undercount in the 2020 Census will result in Pennsylvanians not receiving the federal support to which they are entitled, and will have dramatic effects on these critical programs and Pennsylvania’s already tight state budget. Worse yet, these levels will be locked in for ten years, so an undercount of even one percent would cost Pennsylvania at least 3.9 billion dollars.
Please use the button below to contact your legislators to let them know that the stakes of the Census could not be higher, and urge them to take action now to ensure that every Pennsylvanian is counted in the 2020 Census.
