The World Affairs Council of Harrisburg hosted the 2018 International Poetry Festival and Festival on MLK Day at Temple University. We extend thanks to our guest artists Roe Braddy, Rick Kearns, Maria James-Thiaw, Tameca Brown, Ambition the Poet and Julia Mallory. During the evening we were also graced by readings from legendary Eastern poet Rumi by Dr. Mehdi Noorbaksh, Dr. Sarah Noorbash and Carol Zandieh. Dr. Behzad Zandieh also offered readings from renowned Eastern writers Omar Khayyam and Ferdozi.
Congratulations to the winners of the 2018 International Poetry & Storytelling Competition for High School Students:
- FIRST PLACE: NEW YEAR — Kate Foley (Home-schooled)
- SECOND PLACE: COME SPRING — Fatimah Asghar (Hershey High School)
- THIRD PLACE: THROUGH THE AGES — Edmund Ruth (Susquehanna High School)
- BEST PRESENTATION: Maria Rahmouni (Cedar Cliff High)
