From the Coalition on Human Needs (http://www.chn.org):
For the upcoming Clinton vs. Trump debate, people can suggest questions and vote for them on a website, and the moderators have agreed to consider the most popular ones. People have posted tons of questions, so the odds of them choosing a poverty-related question are improved if we unite around one.
Patrick McCarthy, president and CEO of the Annie E. Casey Foundation, has posted a question to the site focused on promoting opportunity for low-income families: How would your budget priorities lift working families with kids from poverty?
Here’s how to vote for his question. Go to https://presidentialopenquestions.com/questions/7520/vote and click on the Vote button
We like Patrick’s question because it focuses on child and family poverty and asks the candidates to connect their budget plans to anti-poverty solutions. So far over 3,000 people have voted for it – please join in!
And please spread the word through social media – here are some sample tweets our friends at the Annie E. Casey Foundation have suggested:
- Ask the candidates how they would reduce poverty and promote opportunity for America’s working families: http://bit.ly/debateQ
- 5.5 million U.S. kids under age 6 live in poverty. Demand that our presidential candidates provide solutions: http://bit.ly/debateQ
- Show your support for a meaningful discussion on poverty at the next Presidential Debate: http://bit.ly/debateQ
The Coalition on Human Needs, like many non-profit organizations, does not take positions on candidates for public office. But we are allowed – and compelled by our conscience and mission—to lift up issues of great importance to our nation’s future—issues like poverty, opportunity, and shared economic growth.
